Nicholoas did you even go on that website or what? You can use the tick boxes on the new windows live installer website to just install one thing if you want, this will launch the single installer for it it\’s extremely clever.
And this is also to everyone who is complaning about no standalone installers THE WINDOWS LIVE TEAM DO NOT LIE JUST USE YOUR COMMON SENSE AND SELECT THE ONE THING YOU WANT INSTALLED AND IT WILL ONLY INSTALL THAT!
This new installer must\’ve taken ages it installs any combination of software you want, this is how all installers should be, keep it up windows live team!

I am big Microsoft supporter so I won\’t be that harsh. I am so frustrated by the lack of support for Vista x64. It\’s 2007 and I don\’t think Microsoft or the live team (who are doing a great job by the way) would be happy when customers regret going with their 64-bit operating systems. Please, please, please it\’s decisions and actions like this that frustrate a lot of the supporters and Microsoft enthusiaists. Now do I have to build a virtual machine to test the new betas ? What option do I have? Am I not part of the testing audience you\’re targeting considering I have been a software developer using Microsoft Technologies since VB6. I am sorry I really find this too frustrating considering I am a heavy user of live writer and messenger.
I don\’t like the new "Windows Live Setup" service (look in Windows Services: open the start menu and type services in your language). Why we need a new installer? Is it not enough the Windows Installer (msi) ???? In Windows Vista we have Windows Installer 4.0 and 4.1 with SP1, 4.5 in beta stage. Why Windows Live products don\’t use Windows Installer ????

I uninstalled live messenger 8.5 beta1, but:
1) why the Windows Live Setup service remained installed?
2) and why in c:\\program files\\ remained some Live messenger files?

I think it\’s a little silly that support for Windows Live is extended for XP and Vista – and not Windows 2003 or 2008! There are a lot of users (particularly the "expert" kind that build stuff for Windows Live products that would use, say, the SDKs) who use 2003 or 2008 as a workstation environment! When can this crowd be expected to receive support?

The installation takes too much time. It is much longer than the installation of some really huge professional softwares I experienced. This is weird.
I cant get to install Windows Live Suite on my Windows Vista system. I have downloaded and tried it several times but it doesnt work. As soon as i select my prefered application and try to install them.. the installer checks for previous versions installed(not installed in my case) and then all returns error without even downloading saying it cannot download. Please provide me with some help on this issue. I am using an administrator account of Windows Vista Ultimate x86.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit version 6.0.6000 build 6000 (all updates are up-tp-date as of October 1, 2007)
From the comments above is it safe to conclude that there is absolutely no way that I can use a client program to access my hotmail account?
Any news on x64 support including family safety?It\’s getting on for a year after Vista went RTM with a lot of talk about x64 parity, so I can\’t believe that after this time we\’re still having x86 only betas/releases…. especially the mention that family safety won\’t be on x64!
Just as a FYI I\’m finding basically everything I want to use works a treat on x64 – my digital tuner card, web cam, audio card, printer, external usb drive, game controller, wireless card etc YET *not* Microsoft software.That is just plain strange.
I have waited for a year before taking the dive to Vista and I jumped with both feet with Vista ultimate x64, I agree with Nigel (29th Oct) so far I have not found any hardware and associated drivers/software that has not installed on my laptop. Until I came to install Windows Live Messenger. I have visited 15 sites all providing advice on setting administrator permissions, re-installing 8.0, trying 8.1 B1 and none have worked.
Having to work from home a lot I am now not able to see my family whilst I am away. Could somebody in the microsoft conglomerate sort out there software configuration control and support.
When I click the link http://get.live.com/wl/all and select "go to betas home page" I get sent to another page called "Windows Live Betas" and then I click on "Click here to get these and other Windows Live services all at once." and get sent either back to the firs link or to a "Coming soon from Windows Live." page. If I click on "Windows Live Writer Beta" then I go to a "Windows Live Writer Beta" page, I click "try it " and wind up at the "Coming soon from Windows Live."

Partially installed live on xp sp2 then it went south. First couldn\’t update configuration, then could install messenger or ie7 and now live will not install or even begin to install. Get error "unknown digital signature" on all the microsoft files. After days of frustration I downloaded google ie7 and it installed just fine. Don\’t figure. Microsoft ie7 will not even begin to install "unknown digital signature" and the one from google does. What in the hell is going on over there at Microsoft?
Windows live is excellent – it provides Mashup support at all levels of organiszation
and activity……….it should be a great learning tool.

I just bought a game (Gears of war) with Windows Live update… I just want to say that when somebody buys a game 50 € he would like to play it right away and not start to fill in dozens of information… The game worked fine the first time I ran it. I didn\’t have to register to Live update. But today, I am sitting on my chair updating Windows Live instead of playing the game I bought.
All this to say that when you put something on the market just make sure it runs perfectly well. I have had the worst customer experience ever since I have installed Vista on my PC and now you come up with this …
I hope that someday you will have competitors because this is a lot of money for a lot of crap.

i had it same, beacause i has 9.0 on that moment. I deleted 9.0 and download 8.5 that works but i see a black screen when i start up 8.5 its weird…
Dear Chris Jones:This update/change was really a very bad idea, because nothing works. WORSE!, I lost my Messenger, Live Writer and Live Mail that were working super!!! Looking for some ways to fix them (among a lot of Microsoft sites), I was only able to recover my Messenger 8.5 back, but PLEASE tell me, at least, what to do to get my WL MAIL work again!!!!! (all my contact lists were "unable to be uploaded and it shuts down due to a catastrophic error 0x8000ffff"). Now, I want to download WLM 2008 and it says it´s impossible because WL Suite is missing, but if I download it, I will lost my Messenger 8.5 again and I don´t want it. I DO WANT TO RECOVER WINDOWS LIVE AS IT WAS!!!!!!!Besides, and even more, I don´t understand why this can´t be solved returning the pc to a previous restore point!!!Please, email me the necessary instructions to fix this. This new version of WL not only doesn´t work at all, but made me (and quite a lot of other users) lost the good one. (I have Windows Vista Home edition. to get rid of the messenger 9 and get your old messenger back is quite simple:first you search google for windows install clean upinstall that program now manually delete all your files that have tot do with windows live messengerthen run windows install clean up and remove evertyhing that has tod o with windows live messengernow just install your older version (8.5,8.0,etc…)and it should work

Worst version of messenger. Keeps on giving error message with one hotmail account but always signs in with the other. Too many complaints about it on the web and can\’t even revert back to old version to sign in. I\’m stuck in the limbo

It appears I am only "allowed" so many (about 12 when I go to the Blog Categories area. Yet, there are the "permanent" choices that I never use that appear when I go to select a category. I want none of those. I want to create another of my own, yet the button will not activate.That is the first problem. Is there a solution you know of?The second one is that it appears I am only allowed one categoy per blog with Live Blogs.
