It’s been an exciting week for us here in Redmond, as we’re starting to hear back from you about our new Windows Live programs and the unified installer. We can’t wait to hear even more as you try out all the new betas. Continue to let us know what you think here, and on the Feedback site, and you just might see your requests incorporated into the next release!
I just wanted to add a couple of things to take note of during the installation.
First of all, you don’t have to install the entire suite. You can clear the check boxes for any products you don’t want right now, and just install one, if that’s all you want.
The only exception is if you already have some Windows Live products installed (like Messenger, for example). In that case, you’ll automatically get an upgrade for that product, even if you didn’t choose to install it explicitly. Because Windows Live products are designed to work together in integrated ways, if you install the beta of one product, we need to make sure you have the latest beta of other, related products at the same time.
If you DO choose to install multiple products at once, the cool thing is, as soon as each one finishes installing, you can start it immediately from a link you’ll see in the installer! No need to wait for everything to finish before you can jump right in and get started.
Also, if you install through this page (http://get.live.com/wl/all), you can sign up for a new Windows Live ID or sign in with an existing one during installation. From there, you’ll be signed in to the new Windows Live Home page (http://home.live.com), where you can start playing with our new and updated web services while your other programs are being installed.
We sincerely hope you enjoy using the new programs as much as we enjoyed building them.

P.S. We hear you loud and clear about the lack of Vista x64-bit support and we promise you we’re working on it! As stated in the release notes, we are not supporting any 64-bit installations for this beta release, but this has always been in our plans for the final release. Due to your overwhelming feedback, we’re working hard to release a version of the installer that supports 64-bit even sooner than previously planned. We’ll be sure to keep you all updated!
Thank you for the decision to release an x64 installer sooner than the final release. The nasty surprise of the original installer was a big slap on the face that took much of the joy out of us 64-bit users.
The unified installer is great, and i take it windows live will just get better from here keep it up!
Can\’t install on Windows 2003!
I don\’t like the NEW VERSION.! How I can shwitch to the CLASSIC HOTMAIL??? Please HELP ME!
Really wish that Microsoft would drop the hotmail name and just go with Windowslivemail.com
You CAN switch back to the classic version. Just click on the link provided.
Since switching over to the new versian ( which I didn\’t want to do, but was told it would be done for me rather I wanted it or not) No one is able to get my emails. NO ONE GETS MY EMAILS NOW I get theirs, but they no longer receive my emails. If this is not fixed I will be forced to get a new email account WITH SOME ONE ELSE! I have had the same email for ten years so this really up sets me. You shouldn\’t fix things that aren\’t broke, my email was fine untill this new mandatory versian came along. Also there is no way to contact any one to address issues like this. Must be nice to not have to listen to complaints and not be responcible or accountable for the problems you cause. Fix it people. And dont take a month to do it. You shouldn\’t even take a week to fix it. The longer it takes for you to fix it if you do it at all shows that you don\’t care how your mistakes effect our lives. I would gleefully thrash all of you responsible for this. You should be ashamed of your selves.
I really —really —REALLY —REALLY –REALLY — REALLY ——HATE!!!!!THIS NEW FORMAT!!! PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD ONE—- THIS ONE MAKES MENOT WANT TO EVEN CHECK MY E-MAIL–THIS IS HORRIBLE—PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate this format —hate it hate it. Is that strong enough?????????????????????????????
i Hate this version. i passionately hate this new windows mail live. how do i change back to classic. the links people provided are not helpful. I HATE THIS VERSION HOW CAN I GO BACK TO THE CLASSICAL VERSION. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I cant get to install Windows Live Suite on my Windows Vista system. I have downloaded and tried it several times but it doesnt work. As soon as i select my prefered application and try to install them.. the installer checks for previous versions installed(not installed in my case) and then all returns error without even downloading saying it cannot download. Please provide me with some help on this issue. I am using an administrator account of Windows Vista Ultimate x86.
I too want my old version back. I am not particulary happy that it was changed when I continued to ignore the update!!!
Can\’t stand this. Why did you change my version with out my permission. I am sure you would enjoy something force feed to you even if you don\’t want it. What a terrible idea. And the survey says. NOT!!!!!!!
Thanks for considering x64… it\’s been very frustrating having moved to Vista x64 to see new products (albeit beta) not being available on this platform. I\’ve had more success with non-Microsoft stuff in fact very little doesn\’t work on x64. Even community tools writers are getting certificates for drivers etc, so PLEASE keep up on x64.I\’ve had most of the suite installed under Vista x64 before anyway – the only component I guess that causes more issues is Family Safety. Perhaps you could release an installer for the other stuff first and add FS as soon as you can after…Thanks
Outstanding!
switch me back now!!! i like my old version, if not i am considering going to yahoo!
I agree with the others that expressed their discontent with the new windows live hotmail. I don\’t like it. I don\’t like the fact that it was switched from the wonderful MSN Hotmail to windows live hotmail wether I wanted it or not! The same applies to MSN Messenger, if I wanted to use it again I had to upgrade to windows live messenger which slows down my computer. It\’s a known fact that messenger is a system resource hog so putting more bells and whistles on it only serves to make life harder for those that use it, thanks for nothing!
Just, dont use Vista for your WLS stuff.
You should get another computer with XP to use it and install it.
Works like a charm on XP.
i hate this new version live messenger,,,Why did you change my version with out my permission switch me back now!!! i like my old classic version this was very very best i want go back plz tell me how i change this??????????????? and how i solve my problem?????

i just downloaded on my mac this program,i can,t open my mailbox, any suggestions?
I do not like the full version I want to go back to classic Windows live
I have to admit, having spent some time using the new messenger – I have had a new pc, and therefore had the new update – that I am not overly impressed. It seems to work very smoothly (granted, I have a brand new Pc to run it on), but the visual aspect is poor. The \’chat\’ box area is not asthetically pleasing, and it a little too cluttered for my tastes, but I have to admit, I\’m quite a fan of the bullet point addition to the chat. My main compaint would be with the actual messenger screen itself – I know for many this is a case of simply getting used to a new design, but I prefer things to be a bit cleaner. Just tweak the design in the next release, and i\’m sure people will come round.
Ehh the text and overall layout is so messy and BIG, its like having safe mode on Windows Live. Not impressed with the new version.
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr………i wan\’t my old msn back, and old windows live back.why does not msn make it easy to go back as much as upgrade. very interesting… this is force….. no wonder people leave msn for good and go with open source product…i will leave msn good one day as well…. with every application….. i am already using firefox….and will never go back to msn explorer… msn will not win this batter the way it does not give user choices…only force upon us to upgrade….and upgrade….without options…to pick and chose….
I did not ask for the New Windows Live. I hate it and I want my classic version back. I\’ve been with you a long time but I promise I\’ll change if I don\’t get the classic back ASAP!!! Do you understand what I\’m saying? I will blog you to to end along with my family members and dont think we won\’t! This is not a threat but a PROMISE!! UNDERSTAND?????? Unhappy Camper
