- Try Windows Live Mail, a program you can install on your computer from http://get.live.com/wlmail. This is free, it works on Windows XP or Vista, and it will let you access your Windows Live Hotmail and contacts, plus you can add other e-mail accounts and view them all in one place.
- Try the Outlook Connector to read your Hotmail if you already use Microsoft Office Outlook. You can download the Outlook Connector for free to access your Windows Live Hotmail, contacts, and calendar.

If you are a Linux user, or ifIf you need to access Hotmail from the web, try the mobile version of Hotmail on the web at http://mobile.live.com/hm. I have not been able to even look at my mail not send. I have ove 300 emails that i cant even look at. I am unable to update at this time so give another solution or go back to the old msn
I have not been able to access my email on my home computer. When I try to login, it just sits there and after a while it says "program not responding", sometimes after loading it says "done" and it is a blank screen. I have to go to the library to read my emails. This certainly is not convenient because it is not open all the time. I see where it tells me how to upgrade my browser, which I will try. You would think they would have tested the upgrade better before they released it. I am thinking of leaving my hotmail account and go elsewhere!!!
The new version of Windows Live and hotmail suck. I have tried each so called solution proposed by Microsoft/Windows Live, including downloading all updates to each program and none of them have worked to enable web based hotmail access. I have even called the company for assistance and nothing has worked. This program, like the Vista program has failed miserably and I am thinking of abandoning this altogether. Clearly, the vast majority of the bloggers on this site would likely agree that the company\’s feigned efforts to assist users, even those of us who have been faithful users over the years have produced no results and will likely lead to an exodus of customers.If the company is sincerely interested in helping me and others, they would devise a real solution and contact me directly to assist with our efforts to remain customers.I am giving up hope.Jane
Use Firefox and ABP, block all the ads. The page will load faster and MS won\’t make a dime on you! (I was not able to open and send mail, with FF3 and IE7 up to date, without the ads EVERYTHING is working!)If everybody block the ads they should wake up and debug it, but I bet they will hire more programmer to bypass ABP…
My life became miserable after using the live-mail. I lost all my previous messages, cann\’t get to my contact list and unable to send message to anyone. I\’m wondering, how to solve these problems: retrieve my old messages and contact list.

This new Hotmail Live is the pits. Working from a laptop I spend the whole time scrolling up and down due to the new spacing alignments. Friends are not getting emails from me, they are being returned stating they are undeliverable and now I suspect I\’m not or haven\’t received certain emails.
Please someone help me this is very important and I need a customer service agent or something but I cant find the contact us if there even is one. My hotmail is refusing my e-mail money transfers and I have to be able to transfer money to other accounts!!!!! I have contacted everyone except hotmail because I can\’t figure out how!
I guess I must consider myself fortunate since I use XP and have a large screen monitor so I am able to actually use my Hotmail. However, that does not mean I am happy with the changes in the format, which generally are less user friendly and tend to use up much more of my time, and are just frustrating. For instance:
1) When listing names in To, CC, or BCC, they are now in a special format that does not allow highlighting. This means you cannot do a global copy or delete. Tonight I composed a long important email which I wanted to send to most of my contacts which number more than 100, which the program would not let me do. No problem in the old version: I could just highlight half of the names, copy and then delete them. Then paste them into a new email, an easy job done in two emails. BUT in this version I cannot copy or delete the names since I cannot highlight them. Which means I have to delete a whole bunch of names INDIVIDUALLY and then insert them INDIVIDUALLY in another email. And this program is supposed to save you time? PLEASE CHANGE THIS FORMAT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS!
2) The rich text option when composing a message is all screwed up. Of course, it worked fine before. It is not consistent in taking directions. Sometimes you can change the size of the font, and sometimes you can\’t. And the colors don\’t always work. And the display of the colors is much worse than before…………hard to determine the exact color until you try it, and the color samples are much smaller, harder to see, and lousy color saturation. Plus, when you change the color of a line of text, the page jumps up so you then have to acroll back down to where you were working. Tonight I wound up sending an email with different size fonts and different colors, obviously not by choice.
3) When writing and sending a message, the upper part of the screen is too busy and therefore confusing, and takes up too much space unnecessarily. No need to devote a whole line to tell us to click the To button. Why not put "TIPS" up next to "Cancel" and include that with other tips. Same with Save Sent Messages. And anyway it would be far better if you could save INDIVIDUAL messages just when you want to, instead of having to save all or none.
4) Printing whole messages has been a problem ever since the prior version change.
5) Please reinstate the "Details" option when adding a new Contact. This used to come up automatically, but no more. Now you have to go find the contact and pull it up AFTER it has been added and then edit and save it to add phone numbers, addresses, etc.
It seems that new people must be designing this new Hotmail who don\’t have an understanding of some of the efficient ways it worked before. Let\’s try to not do too much reinventing of the wheel!
I think this is the worst ever hotmail system my sister had a baby trying to send my family aboard the pictures with the baby I couldn\’t send them through the hotmail system it\’s the worst I hate it. PLEASE BRINK BACK THE OLD SYSTEM ITS\’ MUCH MORE CONFEDIENT.
I myself like the new Hotmail. I have to commend the team on all their hard work.
Keep going and it will all come out great in the end. As for all the complainers out there.
Work with it a bit and give it a chance. Make suggestions and not just "put it back".
If we always just "put it back" we would not be where we are today….
If you really just don\’t like the New hotmail then use The Windows Live Mail program
or Outlook Connector.
Just Please give the Team time to work things out and fine tune it all……

I appreciate all of the hard work and effort that Microsoft puts into its products. I know you guys take a lot of crap for nearly every product line, including this one, but the level of hatred is undeserved. After you try working with Linux and attempting to use a poorly designed and poorly documented e-mail client like Evolution, you come to appreciate all of the hard work that you have invested in usability testing. Some folks may be dreaming of a Linux-dominated universe and hoping for the triumph of open source software, but it is telling that none of these evangelists ever has anything bad to say about their favorite program or OS that didn\’t require criminal activity to get in the first place. Yet, Linux is a blimp on the screen in the desktop market. If people care about your products, they will complain about them. It\’s those who never criticize their favorite programs that prevent discussions about making them better. The Linux evangelists are living in a dream world where only their particular expectations about a product apply. The customer isn\’t listened to, no usability testing takes place, the documentation is of extremely poor quality, and the OS isn\’t built around tightly defined standards. I imagine there isn\’t as much communication between the Linux developers and their user base as there is in the Windows world. Otherwise, Linux would be much better. Someone in the Linux camp decides what stays and what goes with their particular distribution and chances are it\’s a self-serving software engineer who lacks real motivation to do quality work because he isn\’t being compensated. Plus, if you listen to the fervent dreams of Linux fans, it usually revolves not around improving their OS as much as possible but about sparking some socialist revolution that topples Microsoft and Windows forever. It\’s peculiar that Mac OS X rarely gets targeted, but it is certainly more plausible for them to take down Apple before the Linux folks get their claws into you. A take down of either company at this point is firmly in the realm of fantasy, in any case.Keep up the good work and I look forward to Windows 7 next year. Vista is clearly superior to Linux based on my experiences even with the problems that your flagship OS has presented me with. With Vista I get to do things. With Linux and its free software, it\’s a constant struggle of trying to figure out how to do things that were greatly simplified in the Windows world long ago. It\’s not that things are different that makes it so hard. It\’s the fact that no one but an open source developer would do such an incredibly shabby job developing irrationally complex routines for common things like driver installations and OS updates without regard for the consequences. Where there is no economic penalty, there is no drive for excellence. The open source guys display plenty of arrogance about their abilities but have little to show for it.
Seems to be the old battle between "Coke Classic" and "New Coke"! Frankly, I believe in innovation. However, if the internt is the "information highway" I drive a Geo Metro. It is all I need for now…and I pay gas tax to keep the roads improved (ISP fees). With the new improvements from Hotmail, I need a 4×4 3/4 ton truck (of course developed by Microsoft) just to drive the "information highways" that are supposed to be "improved roads"!? Now I need a yearly prescription to ward off "viral attacks"; Carry neutron bombs to blast the "worm"s I find on the road–some genetic deviation developed by some teenage nerd –maybe even disquised as a "phisch"! I\’m getting much more Spam in my Inbox with the new Hotmail version, it\’s terrible. I didn\’t have near as many problems with Spam on the previous version of hotmail.
Why is it that every time you change hotmail it gets worse and worse. The last time you changed it I was inundated with junk. Now I can\’t forward links, attachments or copy and paste hyperlinks. I\’m guessing there will be more problems as this is just the first thing I have attempted to do.
I am not happy with the recent change. I cannot get all contacts. When I want to print one of my emails. I get lines got off from the email,because the information from hotmail on the left hand side is to far spaced. Please go back to the previous set up. Helen
I am having trouble viewing my hotmail account. Earlier it was just a blank page. Now it has no separate boxes and everything is all stretched out. I updated my firefox to see if that would help. You guys say that you read these comments that are left by all the VERY UNHAPPY customers.
To read is one thing but to absorb and take note of what is read is another.
Have you tried reading with your eyes open to the very problems that are listed here?
Just in this section alone there are 2485 comments of which the the vast majority are complaints,
with the exception of those that are listed praising your new "improved" format, which are quite
blatently obvious fakes – no doubt planted by your own staff. Its surprising how they all use similar
words of appraisal – typing out practically verbatim whatever the memo sent around to all staff
should say in their "we love the new format email."
Why dont you guys just wake up and accept the fact that you stuffed up! If it were a few hundred
complaints – fair enough. BUT its not its tens of thousands – possibly more considering you delete
messages from these message banks. We 1000\’s cant all be wrong compared to your handful of
technicians.
Stop treating us as if we\’re not here and for gods sake stop being so god damn condescending
in your replies. You f**ked up – and the most bleeding obvious answer here is to revert back to the
previous format until you get the new one right.
Oh and next time when you do your testing – try sending to existing customers from years ago for
their opinions rather than the new wave of computer users who havent had to endue the changes
like we have (and so therefore they are more adaptable) and see what we have to say.

For the last week 90 percent of the time that I try to access my email I get as far as my mailbox. when I click on an email it tells me that windows cannot access my mail, try again later. I have a lot of unread mail stacking up in there, some of it important and I can\’t open it. This is not an improvement.. They need to either improve the improvements or go back to the old shit that works. I am about ready to leave hotmail and get a yahoo account
With the new enhanced version of Hotmail I can no longer reply or forward mail after open them. This never caused me a problem with the old version. I am still using IE with SP2.

I can\’t believe that we\’re now 1month + down the line and you\’re still tinkering with all the faults.
Why not instead just go back to the previous version and scrap this hideous, almighty balls-up from our screens.
Then do some real testing, using real people (I\’m happy to help with this) and ONLY re-launch
when you are absolutely sure that all functions operate correctly AND that they offer significant benefits to
your users.
WHen I send reply, I can\’t see what Im writing because no space is shown. I usually end up using the email from my office.
Honestly… I preferred the old version.

I use a MAC at work & need to do attachments. This option is obviously not available. I NEED TO DO ATTACHMENTS. PLEASE tell me how to do this if you are not going to fix things or restore to the old format. I haven\’t tried to do them on my PC. I guess I\’m scared that it won\’t work either. I have been a hotmail user for years, along with most of my family & friends. I don\’t like you new format at all. Please go back to the old way, figure out ALL THE BUGS, THEN change things. There are other things about the new format that I don\’t like, but don\’t have the time to go into them & I\’m sure you have heard them all anyway. Please respond to me ASAP about how to do attachments!!! I don\’t see that it has been addressed in the comments from others or in your TEMEPORARY FIXES listed above. karen

I have Mac OS X (not Leopard or Pantha) it is the very first version and have tried to upgrade my browser without success. Since the update to Windows Live I cannot open emails so cannot send them either. I now have over 100 in my inbox but can\’t read them. The home page is about the only thing I can look at but even then I have a look of double vision on it. I have spent weeks trying to find a solution to this mess and am now giving up and setting up a yahoo account…. unless anyone knows how I can get back my old hotmail account (which was no problem whatsoever)
I was forced to create this account because as of yesterday the system says my e mail (the one I have been using from Bell Sympatico, and also my windows live ID) does not exist! I can\’t get into my MSN messenger or my e mail!, I tried updating the root certificate, downloading error fix prgrams , used system restore, re installed messenger, tried to reset my password, to no avail. I am really getting pissed off at this point, I use my windows live ID several times a day, so it hasn\’t expired. I created another live ID and tried to link my current ID to it, and that DID NOT WORK! I have been on numerous websites looking 4 help what do I do now??????
Guys, have you ever heard the phrase "if it aint broke, don\’t fix it". This new windows live thing totally stinks, I haven\’t been able to get in my mail for weeks and when I do get in momentarily it acts weird, I can\’t see more than one page. Can we just have the option to go back to the old version that worked? I hate this windows live thing, it sux.

I have been gone at Basic Training and had not been able to access my e-mail. Since the new system, I have lost all my folders I had set up initially in my old e-mail. Where are they and can I get them back? I have documents I need to pull up from the old folders.
Would you consider flagging questionable e-mail messages with a ? mark as an alert prior to opening them? Old system made it easier to identify these unwanted messages!Thus far, looks great, works great. Great job!

I love Wave 3 and i can\’t wait for final applications too. Why can\’t i find this "wave 3 look" for spaces into themes menù? it doesn\’t even appear the header. I also noted a bug with Messenger 2009 beta,which doesn\’t take me to spaces page. We need final versions of the applications out too Microsoft
You certainly have not fixed my Hotmail. As I have told you before, I am unable to see the entire page. In order to read messages I have to scroll along. My index at the left hand side – inbox etc are not all visible and I have to scroll down to find those. Looking up contacts is a nightmare. All in all your so called update is a total disaster and it rather looks as though I am going to have to search for an alternative email address.
Not only do I not like this new format for most of the reasons I\’ve read so far from other users I also don\’t like the fact that I can no longer print out a full page without a huge song and dance cutting and pasting. I work in a school without \’Windows" so I must use my e-mail if I want to prepare a test paper or reading activity. The old hotmail let me do a full page nicely. Hey what was wrong with what we had before. "If it aint broke don\’t fix it." The contact list is also screwed up. AND in the past couple of months people on my contact list (or new friends) haven\’t been able to contact me, but Viagra gets through…go figure.

Must force larger ad space at loyal public…muhahahaLockups and siezes…tooo bad. Update your browser and be glad we at Frankenstiens Hotmail have removed the "old Hotmail" option from you. You dont know what you want, WE DO. Click our large flashy ad up top because we certainly cant maintain some extra harware and techs at out multi billion dollar company to keep millions happy.
The new format SUCKS. I cannot open some of my older files and folders. I keep getting error messages that say the request cannot be processed, contact microsoft for the problem. Well I\’ve emailed the assholes several times, with no response. I\’m going to start salvaging what\’s left of my e-mail data and transfer it to aol or another e-mail service that won\’t dick up my files when they decide to change the format.

I rather think that things have been fixed in order that no-one can access the old hotmail. If anyone does have info as to how I can get back onto that, I would be so pleased. Never have I had to spend so much of my valuable time trying to access email, contact list etc and WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO REALISE THAT NO-ONE LIKES THE NEW PAGE, WE DON\’T WANT IT AND IT IS ABOUT TIME YOU TOOK NOTICE OF CUSTOMERS – THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT THEY WANT!
For a while now I have been trying to get to read some mail in particular folder. Error messages all the way. This is so annoying. Other persons have complained. What is the solution Windows Live ppl? Nothing was wrong with Hotmail before…some inspiration you had. JBKing.

Upgrading from Real Player 11.0.4 to 11.0.6 (By launching Real Player | Help | About -> Then if you look there is a \’Check for updates\’ button) fixed the problem I had with hotmail mail not displaying in FF 2.0.0.18. Thanks to whoever figured this one out, I don\’t envy you
(Also fixed problem with google books not rendering either … something was stopping the AJAX i guess)
How do I forward my hotmail emails to my gmail account? It only allows me limited forwarding to MSN based accounts. This is important as I have used this email as my primary business email for seven years with all my marketing materials tied to it. Now hotmail is unusable with the smaller view size, lock ups, folder issues etc….Even if the auto forward to gmail only worked for 24 months, that would allow time to phase old hotmail email out of business marketing. @ scotsman I believe that you can do this from the Gmail side. Go to your Gmail account, click Settings and then Account. You can add your Hotmail account there. I hope this, and the updates that started getting released today, will help.- Antonia

My wife just spent 30 minutes writing an email and when she hit "send" that damned "update your browser" message came up. When she chose the usual "continue processing" option there was no indication the email was ever sent. PLEASE PLEASE get rid of that damned message!

I am trying to print a list of my contacts (the name of the person and their e-mail address. All I can print is their name. I\’ve printed the list in the past but I need an updated list now. How do I get it to print?
I should not have to recieve over 100 junk emails. I find it to have to individually block all of them individually. I should not even be getting them at all. You need to set something up where I can block them immediatelly in my inbox with an icon rather that just deleting them. The way you have it set up, I need to find the part of the website thast allows me to block it, which is annoying all in itself. Not to mention I have to enter the email address, but the advertisements need to be opened up in order to see the email adress, which enables any viruses to enter my computer. I want this fixed. I DO NOT WANT TO RECIEVE ANY MORE SPAM MAIL!!!!
@ Stefanie,To block the address of any spammer, just select the message and click "Junk." No need to open it, no need to go to Options. The "Junk" button automatically adds this address to your blocked senders list.To protect yourself from junk e-mailers even more, go to Options/More options, click Filters and Reporting, and then choose the Exclusive filter.

I just joined Windows live but I accidently allowed Windows Live to import (forward) all my email from my yahoo account into the Windows live account. I do not want this to continue. I want only my Windows live mail to come to the Windows live account. Please instruct me on how to reverse this action. Categories of mail come outside screen. Screen does not auto scroll on dragging mail to an out off screen category. So functionality lags then. Can this be fixed.
