Last week, we added a new, centralized Permissions page to Windows Live, so you have one place to find the permissions settings for all the things you do on Windows Live. With this, you should find it easier to choose what information you share, and with whom. You can go directly to the page at http://profile.live.com/permissions/ or look for the Permissions link on your profile or on the Windows Live options page.
We heard from many of you here on the blog that you’re concerned about your online privacy, and being able to easily limit what information you share. In December, we posted a detailed list of how to set permissions, to help clarify where to find each setting on Windows Live. After hearing feedback from so many of you about this issue, we’re happy that we could also quickly put together this new permissions page to help make the whole thing even easier, and to make this information available to all Windows Live users in all languages.
Thanks for all the great feedback so far. Please try out the new page, and let us know what you think!
- The Windows Live team

Thanks I\’ll try it out
I saw that at least last weekend and was extremely grateful for it although the settings have always worked properly and have always been easy to find. Thank you all:-)
I\’ve been trying to use the sharing calenders application, but for some reason the times of the appointments of the person I\’m sharing with are changed. This also happens when they log on, except my times are the ones that are wrong. I was really looking foward to using this application.
I like that permissions are all in one place, now.Xhttp://X-Evolutionist.spaces.live.com/
Could you add http://www.myspace.com as a web activity that my frends can view?
might be on the cards – Newscorp (who own Myspace in the past has been in talks with Microsoft about taking over Yahoo (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/10/technology/10google.html?ref=technology) if it succed Microsoft-Yahoo-Newscorp (or some other \’merged\’ name was rumored to be like MS you have Myspace as the group\’s social network but this was just before Facebook investment so there is Microsoft-Newscorp friendlyness or \’we anti Google\’. may as well add Bebo on terms of adding more providers how about every other social network, bookmark or social \’site\’
, Dispite me requesting it via feedback hours after profile launch Facebook will be coming thanks to partly its (MS) influence (aka \’investment\’) in Facebook
Yeah, I have tried it.
Something new to play with. So far everything has been working for me and my family. Keep up the good work and keep up the new stuff. Keeps things new and something to look forward about.
thnaks 4 all the great changes !!!!!!
hi, i\’m new to all this. can someone tell us more about this please?
hiiiiii all how are you ? i want find who know me if you know me tell me who are you ? loool
hey so wahts all this then?
NOW TODAY!!!!!!!!
sorry i have just been reading about this site and it sounds awesome! whoever designed all this is a genius and deserves all the accolades for being so innovative, thoughtful and expansive! i am going to sign up to this just as soon as i clean up a couple other things on my pc. very very impressive and i know i am going to enjoy this experience and make the absolute most of All it has to offer! Thanx
@ Juan Trevino: Check the time zone settings for your account, and have your friend do the same for his/her account. Calendar events are automatically shown in the time zone of the account you are signed in with, so if the two of you are sharing a calendar but have different time zones, the event appears different to each of you. You\’ll find this in Account > Registered information (not in Profile).
That\’s completely unusable. Why do I have to click through 90 pages to set all the permissions? Why couldn\’t it be a simple table with one row for each option, so I can set everything to the right values? Instead it\’s taken nearly an hour to remove all the stuff Live didn\’t have permission to publish to the web.
My question doesn\’t have to do with this blog but I don\’t know where else to go to ask. A friend of mine is having trouble with her blog and asked me to help her. She can\’t change the layout and when I tried I couldn\’t change it either. When we click on the layout we want nothing happens, it won\’t change. Can you tell me what to do or where to go to find a solution. We can do everything else in there except changing the layout.
I keep getting notified, every day in the "What\’s New with my Network" that person x and person y and others have changed their profile picture. Yet the pictures shown are the same ones that they were using. I think there is a bug causing this as these people didn\’t make these changes and the notifications are occuring frequently like daily.
@ Sherry of Burrwood: For help, please go to Help (click the (?) icon) in the product you are having trouble with. If you don\’t find an answer among the Help files, at the end of each help Help topic is a link to "Get more help." Click that, then click "Get support" and you will see a form you can fill out to get additional support.
@Windows Live Team: You replied to Sherry of Burrwood about her problem. I\’ve got nothing better to do than have a look at her situation and blog about it – anything for a challenge. Layout is simple if it refers to what I think she means: look up http://thoughtsonthings.spaces.live.com/ but give me time to check things through. Oh, another thing, don\’t know why it\’s happening at the moment but my "Help" thingie takes me to the American version of MSN.home, or something! Must check it again as I wanted to use it yesterday.
@Jeffrey Thanks for reporting the issue about the profile picture notifications appearing for unchanged pictures. We are looking into it now.
@Jen, thanks for helping Sherry out! I saw on http://windowslivehelp.com/ earlier today that the Help pages were having some server issues, which is why you were temporarily redirected to msn.com. But it looks like all is back up and running again. Thanks for letting us know!
This is too much configuration settings that is overwhelming. Is it possible to do like a single Slider or setting that can adjust them all at once! maybe that is a feature to consider!
OMG this page is still way too confusing and the format is inconsistent. Some sections have check boxes whilst others have drop down selections. Clicking save on some pages takes you back the permissions page and others return you the details page!As others have suggested, all permissions really need to be set out in a grid format so one can see instantly what permissions have been set for each section and be able to change them on the same page.
I got a nude picture today! How it could be possible in this era of secured emission. I suggest the e-mail should be more vigilent.
Every time I try to edit permissions for my Space, I get the following error message: "An error occured saving your permissions. Please try again later". This has been going on for about a month now. Any idea why this is happening?
I just got a letter from MSN groups saying that on Feb 21 you are closing the MSN site. Is this letter realy from you and is it true. I wouldn\’t want to be scammed out of your service.Shari Pike
Shari Pike:Yes, I can confirm that the e-mail you received is genuine. For more information about the closing of MSN Groups and what to do about it, read our blog post from October 2008 here: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!9680.entry. If you have a large, public group, we recommend migrating this group over to Multiply.com. If it is a smaller group, like a team, extended family, or small community organization, you may want to give Windows Live Groups a try. We blogged about the new Windows Live Groups here: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!29787.entry. Best of luck.- Windows Live team
@ Juliano – If you\’d care to pass that picture along, I\’ll see what I can do. Thanks!
I thing the live team make very good job .windows live is the best multi way choice to chat !!
Dear Windows Live Team: I did a quick blog some time ago but have just rewritten the thing as it wasn\’t good enough! The new one should explain things a bit better for anyone wanting to choose their Layout in Spaces. Come \’n\’ read it at: http://thoughtsonthings.spaces.live.com/default.aspx if ya fancy!Kind regards to all, Jen
Oh, and by the way, (sorry for this) I\’m still getting that strange thing happening to "Help". Any news?
What do we do if the manager has disapeared and there are only assistant managers in the group? The UpperRoom is an example of this. Would appreaciate your answers. nls1933@msn.com
Hey Team, What\’s up with the weather! I can\’t seem to save my cities or remove Seatle. Is this a permissions issue?
Hey i can\’t get msn games to work! what do i need to do, to get it up and running????
I need to close my old e-mail because of spam and I have already opened a new one. How do I do this?
Well I have to say I do like that it is all on one page. Much better…
When will the team be coming out with an update to http://my.live.com with the new Wave 3 look and hopefully some new features?
Every time I try to edit permissions for my Space, I get the following error message as well: "An error occured saving your permissions. Please try again later". Does anyone else have this problem?
I have a Group > http://glastroncarlsonphotosite.groups.live.com/ . Over 60 members in less than a month. Everyone likes the new \’Live\’ site. Thank you!The listing of members only shows only 50. The previous and next feature is not active?
@ Rayhill: Thanks for reporting this! I checked with the team, and they are aware of this issue and working on a fix. In the meantime, if you want to see the other members, try choosing a different theme for your group, one that doesn\’t use a white font color. It seems that the Previous and Next links get lost in white font on a white background when you have more than 50 members.- the Windows Live team
I\’ve been all through the permissions page and I cannot seem to figure out how to disable What\’s New with Carl for anyone that\’s not logged in or a part of my network. I am to disable everything else. I hope this can be done. Thanks!
@ Carl:It sounds like you’ve already done what you need to do to disable permissions for the general public. People can only see the things in "What’s new with Carl" that you’ve given them permission to see. For example, when you make an update like adding photos, if the new photo album is shared with only one person, only that person will see that particular update in the list. If you then update your profile picture, and you’ve set the permissions for your profile pic to public, then that update will show up for anyone who visits your profile. Since you say you’ve set everything to ONLY share with your network, then those who are NOT in your network (or not signed in) will see an empty list. I hope this helps.- The Windows Live team
It is a long time consuming task to go through all these settings. You should have left things alone in the first place and not tried to copy Facebook. One of those is enough!
For instance, if I go to any random computer and type in Carl Simmons in Google, I will see my profile. If I then click on it, it will take me to the profile and show What\’s New. I don\’t want it to do this. I\’m able to stop all other areas from appearing but What\’s New. Also, these computers are not signed in are not part of my network. Thanks!! All in all, you guys/gals are doing an amazing job!
we need a filter for the comments, please.
I want to reset my space to open public. But everytime when I do this, it would show "An error occured saving your permissions. Please try again later.", while it is fine for me to add/delete some one or edit the "network" or "extended network" option.
Everytime when i try to change permissions, it always says "An error occured saving your permissions. Please try again later." and this probelm has already last for around one months at least i guess. Many peiole has this problem. Is that because the internet explorer version?
i got the "An error occured saving your permissions. Please try again later", too.
