In October, we told you about plans to close MSN Groups. That time has come, and we want to mention it one more time, to make sure you migrate your groups to Multiply or save data from those groups locally before the service closes. We originally planned to close MSN Groups on February 21, but have extended this to February 23, so you still have the weekend to prepare.
If you are an MSN Groups user, you’ll need to move your group to the Multiply service before Monday, February 23, 2009. On February 23 we will close MSN Groups and you will no longer be able to access your group or any of the data in it.
We’d like to take a minute to answer some of the most frequent questions we’ve heard about this. For more details, visit the MSN Groups Resource Center at http://msngroupsresourcecenter.spaces.live.com/.
Why are you closing MSN Groups?
It is our goal to always provide the most current and user-friendly technology to our users, and over the past few years our research and user feedback indicate that MSN Groups fell short of that goal. At the same time, we have been making huge investments in the Windows Live suite of services. In the long term, closing MSN Groups helps us move users to new group experiences that over time will give them more ways to stay in touch with the people they care about. In December we released a brand new service for groups on Windows Live, building it from the ground up to provide great value for our customers.
Since the new Windows Live Groups service was built on a new platform with a different mix of features, we weren’t able to retrofit it to use the data contained in MSN Groups. However, it is very important to us that you can keep the data you’ve created using MSN Groups and can continue to enjoy those experiences. So we have partnered with Multiply to provide you with a way to transfer all of your MSN Groups data and keep your groups going into the future on Multiply.
Why Multiply?
Multiply is an online group and media sharing service that PCWorld recently called one of the ten most underrated tech products. Multiply has worked diligently with us to understand all the ways our customers use MSN Groups, and has prepared its service to receive and host MSN Groups and their data. Multiply prepared a special opt-in migration method that puts group managers in control of moving a group to Multiply and inviting members to rejoin the group in its new location.
Why not allow current MSN Groups to migrate to Windows Live Groups?
Windows Live Groups was built on a new platform with a different mix of features from MSN Groups. The features in Windows Live Groups are optimized for smaller groups of up to 20 people, like clubs or families, whereas MSN Groups caters to a wide variety of group sizes and types, including large public groups. Because the two services differ in their intent and features, they were built using different technologies, and a direct migration from MSN Groups to Windows Live Groups wasn’t possible. Multiply offers a similar set of features to MSN Groups and therefore can more effectively receive all of the MSN Groups data at this time.
If you have a smaller group and would like to try out the new Windows Live Groups service, now is a great time to do so. You can’t transfer all of your MSN Groups data directly, but you can invite former members to start over again with a new group on Windows Live. Groups on Windows Live with fewer than 20 members can enjoy group chats using Windows Live Messenger. If your group has between 20 and 1000 members, you won’t be able to use group chat, but you can still create a group, and can take advantage of the group website, calendar, discussions, and other features of Windows Live Groups. You can find more info about Windows Live Groups here.
Where can I learn more?
If you have other questions, visit the MSN Groups Resource Center for the most up-to-date answers to common questions, information about migrating a group to Multiply, contact information for our support staff, and important dates.
Thanks for using MSN Groups. Whether you decide to move your group to Multiply or start over using Windows Live Groups, we wish you and your group all the best.

@Linda, Greg, R, and others: There seem to be a few basic misunderstandings here. Your e-mail is and always has been PRIVATE. Nothing in your e-mail is EVER being broadcast, and that hasn\’t changed. Your contact list, including your Messenger contacts, are also private, as always. They are never shown to others. The only contacts that are shown to others are those you choose to add to your Profile page (if you use this), and your Spaces friends (same as Profile). If you don\’t use this, no problem.Yes, your Messenger status message is shown to Messenger and Profile contacts in "What\’s new." But your instant messages are private, as they always have been. So, if you need to tell your sister you\’ll be out of the room for a few minutes, and you don\’t want to share that with anyone else, just IM her the message. If you don\’t want to add people to your network (profile or Messenger), then don\’t. Nobody is forcing anyone to be part of a network, just making it easy to do, should you decide you want to try it. I hope this is helpful in clarifying what these changes mean.- Antonia, Windows Live team
Boy, I\’m sure glad I don\’know how to use all that technical tag stuff in these member clubs, but I guess its time for me to learn, but first I didn\’t know that one\’s email would now be made public if you used msn\’s email platform??? I\’ve been using WindowsLive email for quite some time now, I\’m also a little confused? hotmail/Windowslive is supposed to be the same thing is this correct?, and if so, can everyone read your email on this platform as well??? or is it just msn\’s platform? In all reality MSN (my own personal opinion) MSN has really made everything so complex in every form of the word "COMPLEX OR COMPLEXITY" that it really has not been very much fun at all these last few years. But like it or not guys the Internet is changing, and it will be always changing and it will change faster and more frequent than anything else/service, products etc., than anything else on this planet. So we had better get used to it. Cyberspace is endless and that is the "CULPRIT". Where is the best place for me to learn tecnoratti, tags and all that Good-Stuff, shoot\’s I don\’t even know how to blog. I know how to write but I don\’t how to blog, all of that tracebacking and stuff. Now don\’t everybody yell out all at once calling me a "Dummie-AN-All" I know I\’m-a-dummie so now, step-on-a crack break myownselfs back(smile).
but i dont understand …!!
Cooper Abram: Please see my reply below. Your e-mail is not public. Never has been, never will be. Your IM conversations are also private, as always.Yes, Windows Live is the brand that replaced MSN for e-mail and instant messaging about 3 years ago. It is the same service, although, like everything else on the Internet, it has evolved over that time.Oh, and you can just ignore the Technorati tags.
Those are there to help search engines and other websites find these blog posts more easily.- Antonia, the Windows Live teamFor more info on permissions and privacy on Windows Live, please see these two blog posts: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!27927.entryhttp://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!32356.entryFor more info about the differences between your contact list and your "network," see this blog post: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F7EB29B42641D59!32921.entry
Please send me a message on what to do because I\’m sruck. I can\’t sign into Windows Live Messenger and get the error code 8100030d. I cannot find anything on this but, I think its my new antivirus software AVG Internet Security Pack 3 8.0. Since I installed this software I cannot sign into MSN. Please Help me by sending me an private message, I would really appreciate it.Thank You.
When recent hotmail screens were changed it added an advertisement section down the right side of the screen that takes up 3 inches wide of message space to the bottom of the page. I can\’t find a way to remove this as its difficult to read messages and it does not allow to sign out or page left or right on the bottom.
I am unable to open my MSN hotmail to retrieve my photo albums, unanswered emails, saved info, etc.!!!! Please advise!!!!!!
I also have a problem signing into the new live messenger because of AVE antivirus, I finally had to uninstall the whole thing and go back to an old version of messenger. If anyone knows of of way to get it to work, would be glad to hear of it.

all i want to do is chat with my friends but i cant even get into msn to do that now why.
@Cooper Abram: If you use Live Networks, there\’s a brilliant blogger on there by the name of Greg Edwards. He has written about blogging, tags, links and all kinds of other helpful things. Look him up and read his blogs. Well recommended if you want to learn all that stuff.
am not agree with this idea please dont colse the msn we will lose our relation with other
I think removing MSN Groups would be very, very, very, stupid of you guys. You are supposed to provide services to make your consumers happy. I have been a computer tech for 5 years now. I understand totally where these people are coming from. I would be extremely mad if this was happening to me.If I was in charge of you I would demand that you just migrate people over to the new Windows Live Groups. I know this will take a few days, (maybe months) but you guys have the technology to do that. Trust me, if I were you, I would just migrate people over/upgrade them to the new service like you guys did with Hotmail. This would help make those who use MSN Groups talk more about your great customer service. Instead, you want to ruin that reputation. That\’s too bad. Last time I knew, Microsoft was about the customers using your services, not moving people over to some other service. This will greatly hurt your ratings in group communication. All I am asking is for you guys to hold off on anything before you look at all of the options. This way, you will gain customers\’ happiness and keep those who value your services most of all. This will keep your servers busy with customers who love your service. Now it is your choice. Do you want happy customers, or mad ones? I would want happy customers. And the limit is extremely stupid for the Windows Live Groups.
it seems that a few of you are a bit unsure about the new technology. Change can be a good thing. I am enjoing this change due to it\’s opening new avenues on the internet. Give it a chance.
OK Ok thanks for warning, I thought that no longer close
lol qq less
@ David – WL Groups is not designed for the same kinds of groups as MSN Groups, so migrating existing groups over would just not be possible. WL Groups are designed around small personal groups. It\’s not supposed to be a big chat board. The experience would be greatly diminished. And this closure has been announced for quite some time (6+ months), so I think anyone who really wanto to move over to Multiply, WL Groups, or another offering has had ample time to do so.@ Jen – Thanks for the nod. Just click my user tile to access my profile, and follow that to my space. You\’ll find my blog there.
I need to use another hotmail address for this purpose. Thx!
No complaints. I am doing better than I thought I would without being in a large group, a small family group is good. I\’m a quiet person anyway.
I recently made a group from the windows spaces live and Love it. It is working well.. Thanks for this service..
are u closing the windows Messenger as well if u i will crack up about it
Shameless plug for a WL Group that I co-own: All Things Live (http://hackmsnspaces.groups.live.com). We primarily talk about Windows Live, as well as related topics of interest, and provide support and assistance to each other. Everyone is welcome to join and participate.
hi haw are u?

Hi, I\’m having my group in Windows Live ( I\’m owner of the group)and I\’m very happy with the layout. It\’s working great, I do miss the little Icon so we can put tags and pictures in the reply. It\’s a bit unhandy the way I\’m doing it now, first load my picture into photobucket, then click on the picture for the real size, then click on it again to copy. Is there an easier way please? And… some members asked if there\’s a possibility to get the repplies straight into your mailbox? I\’ve looked trough the all the help but could not find it.Can you please help me out. that would be greatThank you
Why I keep getting porn sites every 5min I can\’t even watch porn on my phone
why not give us all a break ,instead of mucking around and changing things that r working well, why not close spaces altogether and go back to school wher u might learn something
Like Greg below, I\’m going to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote some groups:http://Coffee-Talk.groups.live.com/Come on in, relax, take your shoes off, and hang out with friends http://Stump-the-Creationist.groups.live.com/A place for open discussions between people of all faiths and beliefs. All Things LiveA group dedicated to sharing information about Windows Live services. http://hackmsnspaces.groups.live.com/http://LostFans.groups.live.com/A group for fans of the Lost TV series (this is not my group, I just like it)
@Annaaaaaaa: No, of course they\’re not closing Messenger. They\’ve only just updated it with a new version:-)
I agree with Claire below. I\’ve not had any problems with my emails, but closing MSN groups was an poor decision. If some users are unhappy, why not try to address their concerns instead of scrapping it altogether? I migrated my group to Multiply and I hated it so much that I\’m now using ProBoards. Windows Live Groups are designed for use by smaller groups. What about the larger groups? I belong to one that has existed for seven years. We\’re losing a lot of our stuff because of this. Thanks for that.
that sux, someone got a group called americanidol.groups.live.com before me
hola q pateticos….
so do groups close at 12:01 am or at 11:59 pm est
MSN is really going down…. deeper and deeper… What to expect??
More power to MSN. You have made hundreds of thousands people around the world happy for many years with your group services that is expiring – too bad, too sad. Anyway, kudos to all your hard work. THANKS MUCH. Our group has relocated elsewhere.
please colse all these email in my window thank you for hleping me my computer are too busy please hlepime up thank you
By mistakle I opened my datas for group viewer. I\’m no longuer iterested on that. Should I please be assisted on how to keep privacy. Making sure whatever I have on my files shoudn\’t be seen or available to anyothers. This mistakle broghouth me enough troubles. Then shoudl be stoped. So plewase close all email in window having acess. I\’m too busy person, some time without even time get timely my lunch, therefore no time for blog mensagers.I apprecaite for that.
it is now closed for me. Luckily what i need to save I kept open via few open browsers thus I am good. Reestablished my group on aimoo, multiply n blogspot
as usual, instead of actually fixing anything that they\’ve ALREADY broken, MSN chooses to "fix" something that was working perfectly fine. — Guess that\’s job security.
msn hadnt promoted the msn groups for yrs which is a huge reason for the ecline ,Sure they took up alot of space but they were well worth it. The new live groups leave alot to be desired.
Same old- if it aint broke- why fix it and also as the man below stated and it seems to apply so much in business these days- they run down something and then claim that it is not worth it so they bring in whatever to replace it which was the grand plan all along- or certainly a beneficial one or they would have more respect for their users- thats monopolies for you!lolWhat happened with that big investigation anyways? It is so unethical the whole system that is erroniously still being touted as the way to go when it created the mess in the first place- unbrideled corporate greed and power.I am not socialist either!lol
I don\’t want to close MSN I want to chat with my friend but i can not find the way of conecting it please help
QUE SEA EN ESPAÑOL LO QUE ESCRIBAN
NO ENTIENDO LO QUE ESCRIBEN

How do I get this live windows network thing to leave me alone… I can\’t even read my email without it popping up asking me to add people to my network… I don\’t want a network… I don\’t have time for all that … I just want to shut it off…. any ideas?
being new to acomputor i have not become attached thank you MSN iguess you wont ask me to sign up just to browse
Because of you closing the groups down a lot of good groups have been lost. Friendship made through the groups have been lost. For the older members they are having trouble with forums and multiply..to the point where they don\’t bother to go into the groups at all. And for some older member going into the groups was the only company they had.Surely there could of been a better way to of improved your groups???

It was retarded when MSN closed chat and made people pay for it- why break the tradition? Hop on the bandwagon and run everything into the ground as usual….
I am a computer Tech and I have found the new Live interface to be much more combersome to use and much less user friendly. In addtion THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH NOTICE OR REMINDERS ABOUT THIS CHANGE I HAVE LOST A LOT OF FAMILY PICTURES I URGE Charlotte Jones, Group Product Manager TO REACTIVE THE MSN GROUPS TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO GET THERIR IONFORMATION OFF. I have been a MSN paying subscriber since 1992 If this system can not be reactivated I intend to cancel this abccount and all my other accounts with MS and transition my 600 systems and 20 server to Lynix and stop doing buisiness with MS all together.I am then going to start a Internet campain to have others do the same!!!!!
emmmmrrrr… bugga bout all the bs like it or not tis gone… time to move on…buh bye Msn

I have been with MSN groups since 1995 and I was lucky to have made many wonderful friends who are now scrambling to find another on line home. MSN with every upgrade you gave us headaches but we over came all the glitches and perservered but this, this closing of the groups so you could better serve your users and move them to a more user friendly format is a lot of bunk. You could get people to accept your windows live because they were comfortable with the old MSN, so you decided that you would force them over knowing full well that Multiply is a Photo Site with a format that isn\’t even close to the MSN groups. They just want the groups to come over so they can try to get people to upload their pictures and order prints from them. Their security is the worst I have seen anywhere on the Internet, their groups which are actually blogs are the pits and I can\’t even believe you would direct your group managers to this site unless it makes money for you. Yuku and Aimoo are far surperior sites with Aimoo as close to the MSN group format as we are going to get. Window\’s LIve Groups is run through our messengers so you need to have your messenger on which means running 2 windows, your browser and your messenger. Why in the heck could you not have just allowed a normal group format in Windows Live windows and have people come over that way. You got hundreds of thousands of letters asking you to leave MSN groups running and you ignored them all with just generic letters sent to those who wrote. I am encouraging my members to come to Aimoo and to use Firefox as their web browser instead of MSN, you don\’t deserve our loyalty.
I forgot to mention that my groups were Seniors, some who\’s only contact with the outside world was through the friends they made in MSN groups. Many don\’t know what a blog is, what Windows Live or Messenger is, they never used their Windows Spaces that came with their MSN passports but they did know how to make beautiful pages and use cute graphics, post jokes and laugh, cry, celebrate and talk with each other, now they e-mail me and I can feel their frustration and tears as years of friendships are now closed to them because they can\’t get the new formats. It has cost me hundreds of dollars to make personal phone calls to help these people try to stay in touch with their friends through Aimoo. Microsoft you are trying so hard to cater to the younger generation that you have totally forgot the generation that got you going in the first place. Shame on you.

CUSTOMIZE LAYOUT IN WINDOWS LIVE GROUPS? WHAT LAYOUT!!! COLORS? NEWS? THAT\’S ALL? REALLY THOUGH THAT YOU MSN PEOPLE WERE GOING TO GIVE US A BETTER SOLUTION FOR THE MSN OLD GROUPS, AND THESE WINDOWS LIFE GROUPS WITH A KIND OF FACEBOOK STYLE SUCKS.PETER HENNINGSEN
Your new look sucks, go back to the old look & old way of doing things MW Graham
I am not a user of MSN groups, I think I know why they shut down chat. To many sex preds out there.
You guys shouldn\’t have closed msn groups. I\’m pretty mad about it. VERY UNHAPPY. You guys didn\’t make things easier and more "advanced" for me, you\’ve just made it more complicated. Honestly, where else can we costumize our pages and add our OWN graphics? I mean, way to limit our options with those layouts you\’ve put there. Maybe I\’m stupid, but i CAN\’T figure it out! I wanna add my own graphics, custumize my pages and have all those old apps! MULTIPLY SUCKS. Alot of groups have been lost, and things can\’t be made again because it doesn\’t have the same customizing options. You could\’ve given us an option, most people are unhappy about this. Just so you know, you\’ve lost a lot of users. Multiply and MSN Groups live are more like a some type of forum/profile site where you can\’t customize anything but you\’re friggin\’ profile picture. Oh and maybe decide which layout out of 5 you\’d like to use. WOW, that is SO amazingly boring and stupid! I want old msn groups back.
thank you!
YOUR ENHANCEMENTS TOOK ALL MY E-MAILS AND CONTACT LIST AWAY AND THEY ARE MY WHAT GENERATES AN INCOME FOR ME. PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU INTEND TO REMEDY THE SITUATION IMMEDIATELY!!! STOP PATTING YOURSELFS ON THE BACK AND REPAIR THE DAMAGES NOW.
Sorry, I hate multiply and you have betrayed my trust! MULTIPLY IS TOO CONFUSING AND ISN\’T BETTER, YOU SHOULDN\’t HAVE CHANGED A THING! YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED OUR OPINION BEFORE DOING SOMETHING STUPID! I hope you\’re happy for losing many members.
Good luck, you\’ll need it.
HELP ME I CANT LOG ONTO MY MESSANGER BUT I WILL LET MY MUM LOG ON BUT NOT ME I AM GETTING STRESSED OUT I HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO TELL EVERYONE BUT I CANT EVEN GET ON MY MESSAGNER ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS ?
i am not happy about you closing group down here and i had alot of things here taht i alik eand do not like been cut off from this
I\’d like to know how to find an old MSN group. Now that MSN\’s groups are dead I have no idea where the group I\’m looking for went.
How to feel violated by a provider:I received warning below today (see date), which I get about every 90 days. To say the least I was very surprised that my group had been closed in Feb. and all my photos are gone. I didn\’t get any notice besides this one and this one leads me to believe my family photos are still there. If I had received a notice I would have responded as I did today and perhaps I would still have options on my family photos."First warning: your group J<My group> Family is about to be deletedFrom: MSN Groups (notifications@groups.msn.com) Sent: Fri 4/10/09 11:43 AM To: Managers of <My Group Family> (<My group>Family@groups.msn.com) Groups Dear Groups User,Your MSN Group, <My group>\’s Family, has had no activity in the last 90 days. As a convenience to our users, we periodically delete groups that have become dormant. We hope you\’ll consider coming back. It\’s not too late! If your group remains inactive for another 14 days, we\’ll go ahead and delete it. If you would like to keep your group, simply click on the link below and follow the instructions on the web page. Keep my group We hope your group is back in action soon____________________________________End Notice___________________________________________________________________________________________It\’s sad because I thought Live was putting together a great program but no functionality will outweigh basic trust. Preserving data is job 1 for any provider. I don\’t care if the site disappeared as long as you left my stuff someplace I could reach it. Hopefully I\’ll be able to find all the photos that were there. If I don\’t get my photos. If you ever think I will trust anything having to do with MSN, Live or Microsoft again, think again. Of course I will also stop my Plus service and recommend to the 1900 email addresses I have and whoever they know the same. Let\’s see in less than 6 forwards I should be able to cover everyone in the planet, eh?Good thing I only use my Hotmail account for Passport, insignificant mail and store a local copy which I\’ll start keeping at Yahoo and Google as well. By the way , this does not bode well for the MS Cloud initiative either. You want customers make sure they are the center of your universe not presume you are the center of theirs.
Never received *any* notification at all that they were dumping MSN Groups. First time I found out was today when I got the usual email from them about the site not having any access for three months and to *unmark* the site for deletion, and when I clicked on the link I went here (http://spaces.live.com/editorial/en-us/render/msngroupsclosure.htm).There are (were) many family photos that were uploaded where the originals were lost (hard drive crashes, etc.) that I would\’ve at least gotten copies of had I been notified. I hate this company with a passion.

Missed the message. Lost my group. I found some of the data on Google cache. Not much though.
This may work for some, but sadly won\’t work for me (not sure why my group doesn\’t show up there): Go to webarchive.org and search for http://groups.msn.com* or http://communities.ninemsn.com.au/* (include the asterisk) and wade through the long list (you won\’t be able to search for the exact URL). You can also include part of the name of your group followed by an asterisk. You can speed things up by replacing the ### below with a guess at entry numberhttp://web.archive.org/web/*sr_###nr_10/http://communities.ninemsn.com.au/*Example: http://web.archive.org/web/20040511035837/groups.msn.com/CrystalsInTheNight/anangelforyou.msnw
Who Gets Vitiligo?Vitiligo affects one or two of every 100 people. About half the people who develop it do so before the age of 20; about one – fifth have a family member with this condition. It may be an autoimmune process (the body makes antibodies to its own pigment cells). Most people with vitiligo are in good general health, although vitiligo may occur with other autoimmune diseases such as thyroid disease.Vitiligo is a skin condition resulting from loss of pigment which produces white patches. Any part of the body may be affected. Usually both sides of the body are affected. Common areas of involvement are the face, lips, hands, arms, legs, and genital areas.http://www.botanical-source.com
