Windows Live Movie Maker (beta) is a first generation product. That is, instead of adding new features to the original Windows Movie Maker, we started over and have been building the all new Windows Live Movie Maker from the ground up to meet the changing needs of working with digital photos and videos today.
When Microsoft built the original Windows Movie Maker, it was designed to help you work with video you recorded with a camcorder, because that was what a lot people were using back then. But these days, with so many devices that can record video, we needed to create a program that could work with movies using lots of different kinds of video. To do this,
we really needed to start from scratch.
So, for the beta release of Windows Live Movie Maker a few months ago, we focused on making sure we had these key functionalities running smoothly first:
- adding digital photos and videos easily
- making editing commands easier to find with the new Ribbon user interface
- publishing movies quickly and easily
We know we still have a lot of work to do to get Windows Live Movie Maker ready for final release. We’ve been reading your feedback and comments on the first Windows Live Movie Maker beta post and are working to add more of the features and functionality we hear you asking for. Rest assured, there’s lots more good stuff to come.
If you haven’t tried it yet, we hope you’ll download Windows Live Movie Maker beta. We’d love it if you’d let us know what you think about our work so far, and what else you’d like to see in the final release. We’ll share more information about the final release of Windows Live Movie Maker as soon as it becomes available.

Would love to see quick time formatted to wmp files, instead of viewing wmp files on quick time.Just a thought,
Good, other people agree with me that there SHOULD BE A TIMELINE.
Would like to run my mp4 files in Windows Live Movie Maker! But I can\’t :\’(
umm i know this has nothing to do with the movie maker, but i want to be able to im through mi inbox, but i odnt see any button or anything like that. please hep
i love u
Thanks for the blog… My latest beta of Windows Live Movie Maker is v14.0.8051 of 12/4/08, released Dec 15, 2008. Will there be another public beta release before the final?
morning to the world
My contacts are not on mobile phone messenger facilities! Can you tell me where they\’ve gone, or can you tell me how to put them from my in box back into my mobile phone. mobile phone number is. 07897 549649 many thanks alison shields.
For some reason I can\’t download it on a Japanese Windows XP.The software lists on the web (in Japanese), but when I start the Live Installer it\’s never available to install.Am I doing something wrong, or is it simply that the BETA isn\’t available in my language?Would like to give it a try in English anyway, but I\’m not given the choice…
Hello out there in the USA
WLMM is a good tool, very easy to use. So some simple features can help users.Add text labels at specific moments of video.Overlay Images and text labels.Cut, and replace video fragments with images and text labels.Thank your for the hard work!Regards,
Did Windows+Live send me an e-mail asking for an update of my e-mail account? I\’m suspicious of every e-mail I get anymore. This one said if I did not respond in two weeks that my e-mail account: mindreader65@hotmail.com would be deleted ?? Can someone let me know about this??
No it didnt, I got the same message… its a phish attempt
When is your target date for final release?
I was out in a trip and wanted just to look at my hotmail account and forwarded my e-mail from another account, now I want to remove it, and hotmail has only how to add the account but not how to remove it when you just want a temporary forwarding. Please help! Jenny Q.
@Earl: No, that e-mail is a phishing scam. Please beware of any e-mail that asks for your password and claims to be from the Hotmail or Windows Live team. We will NEVER ask for your password other than on the secure Windows Live ID sign-in page. I think there are going to be hundreds of different requests for all kinds of things – however personally I think you can create just about anything with just a small but essential feature set:- At least have the features that Vista Moviemaker did, especially the timeline- grear video support, anything dropped in works with MovieMaker- Ability to place a title anywhere on the screen- and most importantly, 3 audio tracks minimum! That gives video audio, music and soundeffects. With that, all you need is a bit of creativity. For me personally the 3 audio tracks and timeline is the must have.
@Peter Baker: Why not? I have Vista and the OS came with the software installed. What do you use for vid transfer?
Please stop insulting us by saying "we\’ve been reading your feedback". User feedbacks have never had an effect on Windows Live products, so reading our feedback is far worst than not reading them. My colleagues and I reported exactly 652 issues regarding Windows Live desktop products and none of them are satisfactorily solved. I hope none of you Windows Live guys end up in another Microsoft team, especially SharePoint Designer or Excel.I bet Windows Live Movie Maker will not outperform any of the movie-making products currently available. (Open-source, commercial or otherwise, no difference.)
I downloaded the installer, but it seems to mention just about every "live" service EXCEPT movie maker. Did I miss something? Is there an installer just for Movie Maker?
It\’s interesting that we now have a new blog on WMM Live, even though there is a perfectly good one from October that\’s still getting a lot of commentary. Maybe those comments were not very complimentary, hmm? Trying for a fresh start, perhaps? In any case, I\’m surprised by the lack of reaction from the blog team. What is its stance on the timeline? Have you recanted your earlier (and quite incorrect and condescending) position that people were generally too stupid to use it?All of the desired features (like inputs, exports and transitions) have been adequately stated in the earlier blog entries. I hope the team listens to these suggestions and proves John Dangerbrooks wrong (though I suspect it won\’t). What I want to stress is the critical role that these apps have for Windows. A lot of people are tired of platform wars. They want an OS that\’s fast, stable and secure, for sure, but that isn\’t enough anymore. It\’s the onboard applications that really matter. And here Windows has a problem. Linux and OSX are very good platforms. Their desktops work in similar fashion to Windows. Many of the important, open-source applications (Firefox, OpenOffice, Google apps, etc.) work on all 3 platforms. So what\’s the distinction? Aside from inertia and cost, I think for many people it\’s the apps that are particular to an OS. Here Windows MUST be competitive, and Windows Live has to be spectacular. Otherwise, there won\’t be many reasons to stick with Windows. WMM 6 was a major reason I moved from XP to Vista. If you people blow WMM Live, I won\’t be moving to Windows 7.
I wanted to install W-L Movie Maker Beta …… I hunted and hunted tried every download, read blogs and help files to no avail. I gave up on WIndows Live and went to Google to finally get a link explaining that WLMM is a Vista only program (I\’m XP). Wasted a lot of time to find that out (sigh)
Don\’t be sad Eddie!
I am from china ,come in,
Is there a roadmap, or leastways a timeline, whereby WLMM will achieve feature parity, or surpass Windows Movie Maker?
I agree with the previous comments. Windows Vista Movie Maker was a good product and I think that you should aim for at least feature parity before allowing the Windows Live version to leave beta. I\’ve heard rumors that the product was more or less feature complete, and I certainly hope that isn\’t true. The features that are most important:1.) Timeline2.) Multiple audio tracks (at least 3, as someone else noted: 1) Dialogue, 2) Sountrack, 3) Background.3.) Higher quality effects and transitions. But rather than just seeking to replace the smashed Windows Movie Maker, I sincerely hope that your sites are higher. Specifically, it would be wonderful if Windows Live Movie Maker were to give Apple\’s iMovie a serious run for its money. Recently, I was very happy to see that a number of the the "innovative new features" of iPhoto made their first appearance in Windows Live Photo Gallery. Props to you for that! Here is an abbreviated list of features I would love to see in Windows Live Movie Maker (and only some of them are borrowed from iMovie):1.) Video Stabilization. This new feature is absolutely amazing, further, it really is must have. It is quite likely that Windows Live Movie Maker would be judged inferior simply by it\’s absence.2.) Library Integration with Photo Gallery/Windows Media Player. Easy drag and drop of other media elements (photos, music) from an existing library.3.) "Precision Editor." A way to tweak cuts and transitions.4.) Green Screen Effects. Ability to blend multiple video inputs. iMovie does this quite well and it\’s a very impressive addition. All in all, I have been extremely impressed with the Windows Live offerings (http://www.oak-tree.us/blog/index.php/2009/02/27/mobileme-alternatives). I am very excited that they have been offered as online downloads rather than incorporated into the release of Windows, already I can see that a more frequent release schedule has greatly improved the software. I look forward to seeing what you produce in the future.
I am sure you guys know this already but here it goes again
Please meke movie maker so that it supports editing of .mts/.m2ts files which i belive are the default extension that SO MANY Cheap cameras use to save the 1080P video encoded in SVCHD. you guys have to face the fact that editing the godd old 480 or 720P videos are over, very few consumer devices support that, and soon withing the next 6 months, video devices will shoot 1080P as standard format, so please make it so its very easy to edit those
Also i don\’t think Anybody in their right mind would use movie maker if it does not have a time line. Thanks
Oh my….goodness gracious….are you not a bit embarrassed by the new WMML beta edition? I am embarrassed for you. Its like playing with blocks and with your toddler. First of all….no timeline as noted a thousand times in prior posts (just say de-evolution). Another particular scary thing is the formats it saves in… 4:3 ! Now I want you guys at the dev team to go into Best Buy or Fry\’s and look at the all the TV\’s and Monitors for your first time. There are no more 4:3 TV\’s or Monitors to be found….everything is 16:9 16:9 16:9. The WMM I have become fond of has reached its peak I guess after all these years. The only real complaint I have with the "Old" evolutionary MM is the lack of a audio leveling feature….and I hope you bring that to the table.I apologize for being so harsh but I felt it is what was necessary since MS staff seem to tout this beta as something special…its far from it and will be slammed and a laughing stock on the internet if its going to be as useless as it is now.I\’m pretty sure nobody from the team reads these comments…..but if you do….assure me it is going to be evolutionary instead of going backwards and users just playing with kiddie blocks.
After reading all these comments, I am afraid to even try a Microsoft Beta. Thanks, but I\’ll wait for the final, and try AGAIN. Good Day.
Beta and Alpha. Hmmm… I Choose the Original receipe…
The feature to be able to easily and quickly chop up movie clips with a mere press of a button ala Windows Movie Maker must be in!
It would be great to be able to work with avchd files. We have just purchased a HD camcorder, and there are no ways to edit the videos, which is very frustrating.
I wonder whether the development team is listening. As it stands right now, it is a disaster and some heads should be rolling. One can always hope for the final version, but the hope is slim. The best they can do is keep the current WMM and trash this toy for kids. Is there no supervision in MS development?
Wow. I have it and I want rid of it, it is simply just wrong. I don\’t know what kind of age the people who like to edit movies are, but i think you\’ve aimed this at the over 80\’s and the under 7\’s.You have taken everything out of our hands, the timeline is by far one of the most important, but along with that are options, options to go 4:3 or 16:4 option to reduce the size of our files, options to do pretty much anything apart from just click drop and say \’oooh look at the pretty pictures\’ WMM used to be a stepping stone for people that had never used editing software before, it was very basic, but it worked as it followed the same sort of format as more complex software. YouTube users across the world will go absolutely nuts when they see this, because i would say the majority of them who aren\’t using Macs, use WMM. It feels like your trying to stifle the creativity with this. After I downloaded and tried this, the first thing i did after using it for 5 mins was download Sony Vegas. and I\’m sticking with that, even it caters a bit above my needs, at least i can see what i want to do.
I have to agree with most posts. I tried to put together a few clips with some music in the background, but when I tried to find the timeline, IT WAS NOT THERE! A lot of other "features" that you advertised, such as the removal of the collections pane that let you import movies and drag them to the timeline actually make life more difficult for me. I would not mind if you replaced it with an improved file viewer, but removing it was the wrong choice.Overall, as nice as it seems for you to build this new version from scratch, you should have stuck with the features in the Vista version. Forget the ribbon, restore the timeline, allow at least 3 audio tracks, restore the title/credits-adding options, and pretty much just give us a better version of what we had in Vista. Oh, and fix support for M4V files. WLMM will not accept them even though they are on the listo f accepted file types.WMM was one of the only good programs in Vista and I would hate to see it get destroyed like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and so many other great programs.
Haven\’t tried the beta but read the comments and I know how much MS is out of touch with reality. Vista MM is a good product- and it is rare you will hear me say that about a MS product. Just improve on the current Vista MM: ability to overlay text in any size/any font/anywhere on the clip, more options for saving video files- resolution/frame rate/etc., more detailed help files(not just barest of info with links to other MS mumbo-jumbo that has nothing to do with the subject), ability to make global changes to clips, and, of course, forget the ribbon. I (we?) hate the ribbon- it does not save me time. It is what MS thinks is best for me- not what I think is best for me. I am the customer, please don\’t forget that.
I\’ve gone to the download link http://download.live.com/moviemaker and when I download and install it shows all the LIVE products but not the Movie Maker Beta. Help?
I appreciate the hard work, WLMM team. For all of you yelling at them, they OBVIOUSLY will be adding a time line. They won\’t just ignore 95% of the feedback they are receiving. As with everyone else, I hope (and expect) this version will be on par with Windows Movie Maker in terms of features. I also hope they add new formats. The beta already supports WTV files, and hopefully they add AVCHD, other new brands too. I also expect them to add more save to formats, as even YouTube now accepts high quality and 16:9 videos. The main thing I am surprised at is that you released such an early product to the public. While the features that are there seem to work fine, anyone who is doing anything more than making very amateurish movies cannot use the software. And when the software cannot be used, the features cannot be used. I can\’t leave feedback on the export function if I can\’t export the file in the way I want! I can\’t leave feedback on the stitching together of scenes if I can\’t cut and edit videos with enough accuracy.It\’d be nice to see a newer beta so that we can ACTUALLY give you feedback.
Well, the Windows Live Movie Maker is a pretty good program to use… If only there was a lot of effects and transitions to choose from, the ability to control, and the ability to control the audio and video, then I could make a professional video.
Its only ability worth noting is the handling wtv formats and even that is useless since export formats are limited – it can\’t even preserve HD material. You cannot make a professional video using this. What I find interesting is that potentially many thousands of people will be interested in this, and yet the result appears to be about one developer\’s effort for a couple of months. Where are all the thousands of man years effort that microsoft has at its disposal? So far windows movie maker is absent from Windows 7, so if that\’s the plan it\’s a step backwards in this department (worse than Vista!). Like Office, all the ms packages, which have been so strong vs competition and loved by many, seem to be disintegrating. I beleive it\’s all about positioning a suite of apps. ready to offer them online following a trend started by Google, rather than creating the best piece of software to do a job. Rubbish.
can someone help me,i have a big problem i cant sign in i always get an error code 8007007e can someone help me resolve this prob.it sucks i cant use my wlm now i dont have choice but to use an old messenger that is no camera allowed..huh…pls send me mail if u can help me..thanksmia_macaraeg@hotmail.com
I have some pretty basic functionality questions. Does the Windows Live calendar have the ability to automatically put U.S. Holidays into the Calendar so they don\’t have to be typed in? Number 2 -Does IE 8 fix the spell check problem-namely does it have a functional quality spell check that ties into MS Office 2007. With IE 7 you could only use French. Pretty big problem not being able to check E-Mail spelling. Kind of a 101 for E-Mail I think. Has this been corrected with an integrated spell check instead of telling milions of people to go out and find a 3rd party spell check? Last, I can\’t find a way to change font size for the toolbar and menus in Windows Live (other than changing my entire monitor resolution) or to make the colors and lines bolder so the calendar is easier to see. To me these are important functions as opposed to window dressing. Can someone from Microsoft address if the new programs have these functionalities, where they are located. and how to use them. Thanks in Advance.
i am stuck with my msn it keep signin in then out again would you help me please thankyou my msn is jowatterson@live.com
I can\’t sign into Window Live Messenger 2009 after just upgrading it. The error code is 8100030f, saying the authentication service is incompatible with this program. Please help. Thanks!
I just signed up to Windows Live and set up my e-mail and after sending 4 e-mails I have been blocked from sending e-mails.There was nothing unacceptable in any of the e-mails. How do I get it unblocked.Terry Hamilton
Not often I post on one of these sorts of things as I usually don\’t feel strongly enough about things. This isn\’t the case with the new Movie Maker Live Beta. It is truly awful! I cannot believe you have taken what was a decent bit of software and turned it (as someone already said below) into an application aimed at 0-7 year olds. How do I look at the audio tracks for my video files (rather than just some awful "add mp3" too?! How do I view my video in a timeline (as with everyone other bit of GOOD editing sofware!) and how do I get it across that this is THE worst video editing software I have ever used?!Like Michael Kryger said below, I know this could be an early version but why even bother releasing it?! Surely you should be able to release a version with all of the features which Movie Maker in Vista contained and then release further beta versions of Live MM with your new additions as you come up with them?!
Windows Movie Maker Beta – WORST software ever.
Just a few things.I have seen, and have worked with Movie Maker, and Realy, It\’s not a Beta, It\’s More of a DEMO.First, get with the times. If you are going to copy Apple (It looks a lot like iMovie, the version before) Then DO IT right!1) It has to have a timeline! It is un-usable without one!2) You need to have more effects+ Transitions!3) That\’s All I can say.PICK UP YOUR GAME!! This could be a good program @ the end of the day, but still… give me somthing I can give you some actual comments on.
Window Live Messenger just popped up and asked me if I wanted to get the new version, so I checked it out. Along with the new version came the offer to get Movie Maker Beta…what is that I asked. I read all about it. No timeline? No ways to tediously work around in deficiencies of Windows Movie Maker? So I came to this site and from what I read here, it\’s even worse than I feared. I am a teacher, and I can easily teach a 10 year old child to everything he or she needs to know about using Movie Maker in 15 minutes. WMM isn\’t iMovie. It\’s not even iPhoto, but it\’s quick and easy and it works. It will be interesting to see what direction the beta version takes. SJB Benson
I am not apt to sounding like a broken record, but…As a video editor, I\’ve often used WMM in the past, and found it to be a good, albeit not spectacular, program for novices. I\’ve moved to Sony Vegas now, but as I\’m running the beta of Windows 7, I figured I\’d go ahead and download this version of Live Movie Maker. And my initial reaction was one of disappointment.Timelines are the essence of video editors; without it, I\’m not sure if you can even CALL it a proper editor. Sure, it simplifies the process for the average consumer, but what about those of us who know what we\’re doing? Frankly, I think it would be better to reincorporate Timeline into the final product, or least give us an option to enable it. I find the Storyboard really lackluster when it comes to editing, and no one who knows a bit about making videos should be sentenced to such a useless feature. And, as I believed many others stated, it would be great if the old effects and transitions, along with new ones, were put into LMM. I\’m sorry, but three just doesn\’t cut it. I understand that you\’re trying to appeal to audiences beyond the so-called "experienced editors", but this is just… a HUGE step backwards. Sure, keep the ribbon – I\’m cool with that, but do please reconsider adding the Timeline back in, with improved codec support, as well as new effects/transitions and the ability to save videos with an FPS beyond the meagre 30. Until this happens, Sony Vegas will remain my editing program of choice.Additionally, I LOVED how you could use XML to write your own effects for the previous versions of Movie Maker. If this functionality stayed in WLMM, and the Timeline was restored, I\’d definitely reconsider using this program.
I agree. Any video editor without a timeline is…well…just not usable!
I cant get why Windows XP PCs are not allowed to use Windows live Movie Maker
I Hate it it\’s rubbish! They need more tranistions and you really need a timeline! there\’s like nothing you can do and you cant have more songs or anything! >=[
Horrible software. A major step backwards. At best you can make a slide show. There\’s no way to edit the music or to synch it up with the images. No timeline? This is nothing but a stripped down version of the image viewer. Boo. Hiss.
I tried the Beta out and I am stunned, I really love WMM but this new "Movie Maker Live" is just the worst.Really,, your guna take a great product like WMM and just ruin it ?????I just dont get it at all.Is WMM getting phased out in favor of "MM Live" to be the editor with Windows 7 ??,, if thats the case I will go out and get some extra Vista PC\’s before Windows 7 comes out.CheersDavyo
guys calm this is only the beta (hipefully they will make the real one with the same and more like the original movie maker….)
Many digital cameras produce video clips in the QuickTime Movie Format (.mov). Why not allow WLMM to support this format as well?I like the ribbon interface, by the way.
no entiendo nadaaaaa :S
Ok… so I’ve used both WMM for XP and Vista in the past, and when the Beta for Windows 7 came out, i switched to it. I’m liking it, but the one thing it lacked was a video editor. so, when my live messenger said I could try this out, I hopted for it, thinking that it would be similar to the ones in previous versions of Windows. But after getting Thorley frustrated with the lack of a time line and the sheer lack of output options I’ve officially given up on this program. So i re-installed Windows XP (doesn’t hacel me over installing it) and have had to switch back to it just to make some small edits of stuff, and for editing my TV recordings (loose the Carmichaels)Thanks allot for making a hunk of crap and then telling me that it is the editor that Windows 7 will not come with and I will have to download it just to get it. (What’s the packet size? 13MB\’s? and Windows 7 is… 2.7 or so? I think that will fit on a 4.7GB DVD)
woups… forgot the GB after 2.7
Great start! Here are some things I would like to see added before I will find it useful for me (I primarily make photo montages):-Timeline!-Timeline zoom to cut music at fractional increments-Ken Burns style pan and zoom effects: user defined, not presets. Also, allow motion pause on a slide before, during, and after pan and zoom (so that pan and zoom doesn\’t happen for the duration of the slide)-option to auto-center text boxes or line them up with boxes on previous slides-distinguish between media uploaded to the program and media placed in the timeline so you can easily drag and drop tiles into the timeline from an unsorted set of media.-transitions and fades on beginning and end of one slide, not between two slides-visual transition editor: create layers with a variety of selection tools (intelligent scissors!), then define the motion, speed, and synchronization of each layer as it moves off screen.
they should add a bluescreen and greenscreen effect, 2 video stripes and 2 audio stripes. makes adding and editing better.
That\’s all fine and dandy (starting from the ground up and all), but if you don\’t include the baseline functionality that was in Windows Movie Maker, this will be an abject failure. Last week I helped my son create a movie project for school on Vista using Windows Movie Maker. It came out great. Over the weekend, I installed the RC of Windows 7 and found that Movie Maker had been removed, so I downloaded this. I was woefully disappointed this evening when I tried to create movies for my wife\’s mother for Mother\’s Day. Key features you\’ve got to keep:Timeline (with ability to split, trim, move between tracks)Title Screens (granted these were pretty basic in WMM, but starting a video on the first image is just tacky)Custom XML layouts (I actually created a couple that I use)Ability to open earlier versions (it didn\’t recognize any of the video projects I\’ve created in the past)Get the basics right, before trying to dazzle us. I\’ll be downloading the XP version and using it until this improves.thanks
The Beta version of Movie maker for Win 7 is like going back to DOS 2.1 – very lack-luster and a major disappointment. I\’ll stick with Vista until it dies. MS should not disable/discard functionality already developed and released to the user group in the previous versions of the product. BTW, I\’ve been working with computers since 1970, so I have a little understanding of system design and customer satisfaction.
I use MM almost daily and this version I am using in Win-7 BLOWS. GO BACK TO THE BASICS!!!!!so needless to say I WON"T be buying Win-7 anytime soon or untill this garbage is fixed. Thanks for Nothing!Sam F.
There is Hope. I decided to try MM2.6 for Vista and it did install, But it Hits the cpu at 90% or more. I took a 413 meg movie and made a 215 meg movie out of it and took about 36mins. Here is the link to MM 2.6 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d6ba5972-328e-4df7-8f9d-068fc0f80cfc&displaylang=en
What on earth were you thinking? Truly, truly appalling. It\’s not very often I come across a piece of software with absolutely no redeeming features, but you\’ve actually managed to achieve it with this. And to top it off nicely, Windows Live doesn\’t allow you to uninstall individual components. I want this thing off my nice, shiny Windows 7. Anyone know the correct GUID?
At this point WLMM does not DESERVE to repace MM Vista. iIt is not a video editor and supports a very small subset of features. It appears like the product has been a strategic failure. I\’m all for adding support for more codecs and features, but not at the expense of elementary functionality. Why would reducing features and making it less user friendly be called an upgrade???
Hmm I Need XP Not Vista
Awful. Bring back the time line and add more effects and transitions.
Fail.
I adore Windows Movie Maker 2.1 on XP. I can do a lot with it and love fiddling with xml code to invent my own transitions etc… I would love to try out the Beta and if I liked it it would definitely influence my decision to upgrade to Windows 7. Is there anyway that I can get the beta to work on XP for review purposes. It is really frustrating not to be able to try it out without buy the now becoming redundant Windows Vista.

Why did Microsoft put it there, without warning users that it is basically completely useless? If you watch a clip and randomly click around, it crashes with a pointless dialogue box saying error 0x8000ffff has occurred. Personally, I hate the ribbon, I\’ll never get around to liking it, I still use Office 2003 and the 2007 filters even though I have a sealed, unused, copy of Office Ultimate 2007 sat on the shelf. The reason I don\’t like the ribbon is that the UI loses consistency, it almost feels like you\’re using six different applications at once, unusual options are heavily buried in the start button or obfuscated in a ribbon drop down menu. Back to WMM – go and try Adobe Premiere and Adobe SoundBooth, that is the gold standard. Make something that does the best bits of that, e.g. split the audio from the video, variable frame rate, animated effects such as zoom and crop, ability to have more than one timeline so you can have videos inside each other etc… A Windows 7 RC1 bug, autohide the taskbar and set it to the top of the screen and doesn\’t hide properly…
I would like to see you guys add in the .mov format. My main use of MM has always been to publish my Zbrush time lapses and tutorials. With out the function to edit . mov files , This program is useless to me. I liked the old MM because it was hassle free and easy to use for basic editing. This one is a step in the right direction but there is still a lot of improvement you guys need to do…
Please update your beta with more editing options than just colour filters. If you really need to keep the ribbon interface, fine. I think it\’s hateful. Maybe some of your customer base is illiterate, but I like my text menu trees. It wastes my time having to hover over incomprehensible icons waiting for the tool tip to tell me what it\’s supposed to do. If you could add a way to switch back to a more minimal interface that doesn\’t eat up my screen real estate I would appreciate it. Tell those bastards that make the office suite the same thing =)
For the rest of us who actually want to make movies please make sure there is a time line and all the editing and splicing features in the live version as in the vista one. I think the ribbon interface will help a lot as it is a huge time save for me with Office 2007. Also can you please write in some more audio capabilities and allow there to be video in video capabilities like there are in other software. As long as it still has all the features as the vista one good luck. Can\’t wait to use it once completed.
Make sure the timeline is there. Also, as a transition or effect option, I\’d like to be able to completely wash out a picture or clip with static, rather than just adding some "noise" that isn\’t even noticeable among the regular file compression anyway.
I know you have heard it asked for at least a million times but please don\’t forget green and bluescreens. I teach teachers how to use technology and tech tools with their students and yes I can show them how to create xml code and create a notebook file but that immediately turns them off…it\’s not easy for them.
Windows Live Movie Maker is a disaster – it\’s not only vastly inferior to all other WMMs but has now become a completely useless program. Bring back one of the usable versions!
It\’s not very powerful. Bring the old one back. It\’s hard to use. With the old one you can further customize it. Please make the changes. My video sucks because I used the new thing. I want to be able to customize my movie more than this noobie program. Please work on it!
