Update:
We are happy to report that this issue with the “favorites sync” feature on Windows Live Toolbar has now been fixed and you can now re-enable this feature. As we mentioned in the original post, no data was actually lost and everything will work as expected and you can again get your favorites synced back to your browser on your PC.

For anyone who uses the “favorites sync” feature on Windows Live Toolbar, we have an important notice. We’ve heard from some customers in the last 24 hours that in some cases, favorites have been removed from the Toolbar when they synced from one or more of their PCs. We have investigated, and we want to assure you, that if this is occurring for you, your favorites are still available on SkyDrive at http://favorites.live.com. We apologize for this inconvenience and are diligently working on a fix to restore favorites from SkyDrive to your PC.
In order to prevent any further issues with favorites sync from Toolbar, we have temporarily disabled syncing of favorites for ALL Toolbar customers until we have a fix ready. We will update this blog once we deploy a fix and restore the favorites sync service. In the meantime you can sign in to Windows Live SkyDrive to access your favorites. Alternatively, you can also recover your favorites from the Recycle Bin on the PC where they were removed.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience. We hope to restore the favorites sync service as soon as possible.

This was happening to me yesterday. I went to Skydrive and downloaded my favorites as a .zip file and recovered them. It was a bit scary to the point I backed up that .zip file locally just in case it cleared them from Skydrive.

Glad to see this post, I love Windows Live Favorites, Essentials, everything about it, I just got it working had all my favorites on there and boom, gone, just my folders showing and they are all empty. Wow. I was forced to download Windows Live by Qwest and I have got to say, it is horrible. I\’m NOT a computer online junkie, I do not live my life building Youtube videos, I DON\’T want my email displayed on my home page (that\’s what in boxes are for), I don\’t want 3 months worth of updates on "What\’s not so new in my network" taking up 25-30% of my home page, and I can\’t get any of that crap off of the home page. The system simply does NOT have a delete function for it. At least with MSN Premium, I could move things around my homepage and delete the miscellaneous crap. With Live I\’m stuck with what some pasty faced geek in Redmond Washington thinks I need. If I want to know what my friends are up to, I do something apparently novel to the twitter (the base word for which is not "tweet" it\’s TWIT) group haven\’t thought of, I CALL THEM. I certainly don\’t need three month old updates taking up a quarter of my monitor. I might like to actually see the weather, the news and sports on my homepage. THAT would be useful. This crap isn\’t. I don\’t care about making youtube videos, I care about functionality. The help service is an online circle jerk that lands me back at this more or less useless location. I\’ve been using MSN or MSN Premium for years. I\’m really going to hate having to redirect all of my email to a new ISP. But, I\’ve done it before, I can do it again. Perhaps Microsoft needs to stop having computer geeks do their beta testing and have real customers try a product before releasing it. I realize that Microsoft thinks they\’re so big that they don\’t have to produce user friendly products, but they too can lose market share. The bad thing about being on top of the hill, the downward fall is a lot more painful.

Hi all,ever since this problem with the syncing of the favorites i\’ve run into another problem, i can\’t create new favorites. I\’m not sure if the two are related or not, but if someone could check on their own system that had the favorites removed as well i would appreciate it. Hey! I lost my entire favorites list. This happened last Wed., Nov. 4.Did this happend to anybody else? I have IE8 and Window Live Toolbar, but no favorites sync. How do I retrieve my favorites list?

Hi! I am writing for my friend. She can no longer sign in with her hotmail and password. Although it is the correct password we tried \’Forgot your the password\’ but she never set up an alternate e-mail address to recieve it. What can she do? Does that mean this account is no good to her any more? She cannot get into her facebook any more either. Help?
